Indian Sidney

Well, it’s a different issue whether Sidney Sheldon won any booker prize or nominated for Noble prize but he won a lot of hearts all over the world with simple language and beautiful queens in his books. Perhaps he can be recommended as a starter for any reader any where in the globe.

Let’s see where Indian literature is going towards. Everyone may not be a Tagore. The routes of Shobha De and Khuswant Singh will be different. And another line will be separated for Amitabh Ghosh or Vikram Seth. Let’s see, the most famous icon of the country Mr. Chetan Bhagat, where is he heading towards?

“2 States (The Story of my marriage)” – Chetan’s fourth book will shortly hit the market. Is he heading towards India’s Sidney Sheldon?

He says as below in the book:

Love marriages around the world are simple:

Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy.
They get married.

In India, there are a few more steps:

Boy loves Girl. Girl loves Boy.
Girl’s family has to love boy. Boy’s family has to love girl.
Girl’s Family has to love Boy’s Family. Boy’s family has to love girl’s family.
Girl and Boy still love each other. They get married.

Welcome to 2 States, a story about Krish and Ananya. They are from two different states of India, deeply in love and want to get married. Of course, their parents don’t agree. To convert their love story into a love marriage, the couple have a tough battle in front of them. For it is easy to fight and rebel, but it is much harder to convince. Will they make it?

Well, I am not waiting for the release of the book nor I will. But one thing I can say about Chetan positively. He created an interest among young Indians to open books. When these folks walk on the footpath, they don’t mind to take a halt and have a glance on his books. I must admit Arundhati, Adiga, Desai and Rushdie have won prizes for the country, but no one has been able to create a mass interest among the mango people.

Uncle Sam projected, “There may be too many critics for Chetan. But he will be the person to change Indian Literature's direction.”
